Chapter 56: Snowflake
The kids from the school nearby call her Snowflake because she always mumbles about Christmas as she shuffles with her shopping cart — brimming over with her life — but she is named after her dad Dean. Once upon a more prosperous time, Dean worked for OUC in the historic building on Lake Ivanhoe. For many years, no matter the residents of that building, Deana sleeps under the holiday sign panels on the roof, wrapped in a blanket and nostalgia. Three Christmases ago, much to her amazement, she found the defunct neon once again glowing red. Deana lives under a Christmas miracle.
